Clicking on the photo is like your Playbill, as it often contains further information about the cast, crew, and production behind many of the landscapes featured here.

But first, I feel this gallery almost needs some sort of Disclaimer, because when looking at some of these amazing yards, it is often hard to believe that you are still in Texas!

The photographs shown here span several decades of my career, so thematically, they are all over the map, but they do all have three things in common: not only were all of these landscapes shot in or around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and not only are they all residential landscapes, but they were all in some way made possible by COVINGTON'S NURSERY.

These are important distinctions, and testaments to what a truly talented landscape designer and installation team can accomplish, since without context, many of these yards could easily be mistaken for a park, an arboretum, or just outright NATURE. But they are not, they are each and every one of them residential contrivances of the most delightful sort, a kind of "Landscape Theater," if you will.

And I hope you enjoy the show!

"For me, both photography and landscaping are similar in a fundamental way: I am often choosing not to accept things the way they really are, but am instead turning them into what I wish they could be."

EVERY PHOTO HAS A STORY

It has always been fascinating to me how residential landscapes can be so natural and yet so fake, so contrived, all at once. The dichotomy is mesmerizing.

I'll show people pictures of a yard I shot, maybe even my own yard, and they'll say, "Oh how beautiful, I wish I could see it in person!"

And I'm thinking, "Why would you want to do that? Do you have any idea how long it took me to get it to look like this? You realize that it doesn't just stay this way, right? What's happening in this photo is about as good as it gets, Buddy. No need to come over and spoil the fantasy!"
