Basically, Seth is Refreshing
Telluride, Colorado
When Seth and I first started dating, I regularly referred to him as "basic." I believe "Refreshingly Basic," were my exact and favorite words, but he soon told me that this didn't mean what I thought it did. Or rather, that depending on who I was talking to, it might not come across as intended, especially not for people of his generation.
See, I meant it 100% as a compliment -- "refreshingly basic," like a golden retriever... or a crisp white shirt, fresh from the dry cleaners... or an ice-cold glass of water on a hot Texas day. Sometimes these things are just what you need and are so much more satisfying than, say, a slobbering pit bull, a loud floral print, or an over-sweet daiquiri with a tacky paper umbrella in it. They are refreshingly basic!
But apparently Seth's friends thought I was refreshed and excited to find someone so dumb and unoriginal, the new meaning of the word basic. Which, in turn makes me look basic, because why would I be excited to find a stupid and shallow person to pursue romantically?
See, this is why you should just stick to basics, like, "I love you, Seth." It doesn't get much more basic than that.
I love you Seth, thank you for helping me put together this website! 😍
