Let’s Go Ahead and Get This Photo Out of the Way!
Patagonia, Chile
Soon I suppose I will write the entirety of my thoughts about the W Trek in Patagonia, but currently there are still blisters healing on my feet, so I'm going to wait a bit before sitting down to write.
Don't worry, though, it will be nowhere near as intense as my storry of trekking to EVEREST BASE CAMP in Nepal!
But before I start sharing photos of the parts of Patagonia you probably HAVEN’T seen, I feel compelled to go ahead and post this quintessential shot of the towers first, and just get it over with. 😆
Even though I was blessed with just enough moody cloud formation around the top of the towers to make them interesting and cinematic without obstructing them entirely, and the light was such that it allowed the rocks to be wonderfully visible just below the surface of the water, I was still disappointed that I wasn’t able to bring anything truly new or remarkable to the conversation here.
As you can see, my photos are not dissimilar to the photos you’ve seen of these towers countless times before. This is especially frustrating since experiencing them in person is transcendent and totally unlike anything the innumerable photos of this magical place are able to convey.
With only one way in and one way out, the entire area is like a panoramic enclave that wraps around you on (almost) every side and encompasses every inch of your vision.
Hubris had me imagining that I would somehow discover some new and exciting angle or breathtakingly transformative way of photographing them that had eluded all the photographers before me, but alas… no. 😜
However, it did occur to me— for about the 100th time since arriving to Torres del Paine— how great it would be to shoot this with my drone, but drones are (understandably but disappointingly) prohibited in the park. 🫤
