Reflections of Alhambra

Generalife Gardens, Granada, Spain

A nearly perfect reflection, late in the afternoon, at the Alhambra’s Generalife Gardens in Granada, Spain.

I am building a small house in Dallas based on inspirations from all my favorite architectural and cultural elements from around the world.

And while I have visited Spain many times over the years (more than any other country, actually), and several facets of the home I am building are based on Spanish designs and traditions, I felt it was important (before moving into the TILE phase) for me to actually see — in person— all of the tile work in The Alhambra.

Think of Alhambra as like the king or the mothership of all mosaic tile work. You simply won’t find more intricate or more breathtaking designs anywhere else in the world. Not on the same scale, anyway.

So, I was in heaven, not just as a photographer, but as someone who loves the artistry of mosaic tile done in a Moorish aesthetic that combines Islamic, African and European influences. I’m getting all frothy just thinking about it!

More on this to come, I promise! Stay tuned!
