Broken Irish: This is Moher Better
Portmagee Foilnagergh, Ireland
I know that a lot of poetic people have had a lot of poetic things to say about the Cliffs of Moher, and I believe all of that was probably true.
At one time.
But by the time that I arrived to visit them, in THIS century, they were somewhat of a tourist trap.
The Cliffs of Moher really are beautiful cliffs โ I could see that easily โ but any poetic solitude or wistful reverie I might have once enjoyed was immediately destroyed by long lines and overflowing tour busses. These enormous busses were dumping thousands of international travelers onto these cliffs, which are now complete with a restaurant and gift shop.
As you can imagine, it was therefore difficult for me to see them in the same way as the poets and painters of yore. ๐คจ
So, the photo above is of different cliffs entirely, in Portmagee, Ireland, which I loved immensely and watched for hours with just the company of my friend and perhaps three other people. ๐
Not three thousand.
