Paper Thin Logic

Stores Everywhere, All The Time

I always get irritated when I show up to the store isle and the only paper towels left are the ones with tacky, pitiful, designs on them. They match nothing in my home, I just want white.

So... who exactly are these tackily decorated paper towels for?

I just assumed that everyone else wants plain white paper towels, too, and that’s why these are often the only ones left.

I always think of them as the “cheap” paper towels— but hold on— printing a design on something is a whole extra process, the ink and the printing must actually COST the paper towel manufacturers extra money.

But they don’t cost any extra on the shelf, for the consumer. If anything, they’re the ones that are always discounted! So again, who are these for and why do the paper towel companies keep making these?

Is there is a whole demographic, an entire faction of people, who are constantly saying to their partners, “Now don’t just come home with white paper towels, be sure and get the ones with ducks and paisleys on them...?”

Are there? Tell me, and I’ll shut up.  Maybe they have a hardcore following that I don't know about. Maybe there are people who think to themselves, "Dang, all they have is white today.  Those would do the job, match everything, and barely be hideous; I’ll just have to come back another day when they have more paper towels with argyle owls on them."

This has bothered me for years, and I’ve kept silent. But no more. Clean up this mess, paper towel companies! Stop printing unnecessary bullshit all over the paper towels!
